Lithium batteries power much of today's technology, but their safe transport requires careful consideration. At SAS Cargo, we prioritize safety above all else.
Effective February 1st, 2019, there will be an embargo on the below UN numbers on all Scandinavian Airlines Intercontinental flights: UN3481, falling under Section I of Packing Instruction 966/967, IMP code RLI UN3091, falling under section I of Packing Instruction 969/970, IMP code RLM. However, batteries classified under different sections remain unaffected.
Additionally, UN3090 and UN3480 batteries are forbidden on SAS aircraft and must be transported exclusively on cargo aircraft.
Furthermore, IATA provides essential resources for understanding lithium battery transportation, including classifications for small lithium battery-powered vehicles and risk assessment guidance for operators. To ensure compliance with regulations, we recommend consulting the latest Lithium Battery Guidance Document on IATA's website.
At SAS Cargo, we are committed to upholding the highest safety standards in transporting lithium batteries, ensuring the well-being of our customers and their shipments
