On May 21, SAS marked an important milestone: the official inauguration of our direct route between Copenhagen and Seattle. After decades apart, we’re reconnecting two regions with strong historic and economic ties, and we’re doing it with one of our most modern aircraft, the Airbus A350.

This long-awaited route is more than just a new line on the map; it represents a renewed bond with the Pacific Northwest, a region known for its deep Scandinavian heritage and dynamic business environment.

Inauguration Highlights
The launch was celebrated with special events both at Copenhagen Airport and on board the inaugural flight. Guests, partners, and colleagues joined the festivities, which included gate celebrations, speeches, and welcome activities in Seattle. We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the day memorable, from the ground crew to the flight crew, and of course, our passengers.

A Strategic Step Forward
Seattle now becomes SAS’ 11th gateway in North America, reinforcing our commitment to strengthening Copenhagen as a leading hub for transatlantic travel. From Seattle, customers can connect seamlessly to 39 destinations across Europe, including Berlin, Milan, Zurich, and Helsinki.

“Seattle is more than just a new destination for us. It is a return to a city with historic ties to Scandinavia and growing importance for business and tourism,” said Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS.

This route also opens new possibilities for SAS Cargo, tapping into a region known for its strong manufacturing, technology, and pharmaceutical sectors. With the increased cargo capacity of the A350 and new links to European markets, the Seattle route supports growing logistics needs on both sides of the Atlantic.

Looking Ahead
The Seattle reopening is part of a broader network expansion, with exciting new destinations ahead, including Nuuk and Seoul, launching in 2025.

We’re proud to be expanding our global reach while staying true to our Scandinavian roots. Seattle, it’s good to be back.
